Plea for Calm

My fellow citizens:

I have heard today about the unfortunate threats against the lives of lawmakers.  While I understand the level of frustration, I must join Glen Beck, Congressman Bainer and others to plea for calm.  This is not what the Conservatives and the Tea Party is all about.  I agree with Glen who said on his radio show today that these legislators who portrayed this dasterly deed on all of us this past week, probably are trying to encourage some of us on the other side to do what was done by certain citizens today to discredit their opposition.  If we do this and go down the road of violence, then they win.  Please, do not do this!

I also have a message for the opposition if they happen to fall on this blog somehow.  These kinds of violent acts or threats is what you get when people think their freedom is being taken away.  You have scared and angered many people.  You want power and control over the populus.  Additionally, you expect for people to go quietly into the night.  This is what you get and while I plea for calm and hope this country does not spin out of control, this is what you sew.  Please, come back to the drawing board.  If you do not, we will defeat you with our will, our minds and God's grace.

Commentary on Healthcare Vote

I wanted to join everyone on this day to comment on the healthcare vote.   In the past few days, "No" Democrates have been dropping like flies as if Pelosi released in the duct system of the Capital Building.   Stupak fell earlier because Obama agreed to sgn a worthless piece of paper saying abortion is not in the Bill and will not be allowed when it clearly is and it will give funding for abortion.

I have never seen so much corruption in my life.  It is my bet that we will be hearing and learning about what really went on here for years and decades to come.  The CBO report says it only will cost $940 Billion  and will reduce the deficit by $139 Billion in the 10 years and 1.3 Trillion in  20 years.  This is a pile of garbage.  Nobody knows what will happen in 10 years, nevermind 20.  It is a useless exercise in futility.  This game is totally meaningless not to leave out the fact that the CBO works for the Speaker of the House -- how convenient.

We cannot afford this Bill and the country will go broke.  The Democrats clearly want to make this country into a third world nation.  We do not have the doctors to treat 30 million more people and as people are saying the doctors we do have will go into retirement.  This means rationing of care and it will lower the quality of doctors as the government tries to mandate unqualified people to go into medicine.

Once the government passes this new Bill, they are not going to stop.  We have immigration reform and "cap and tax" as if the taxes will not be high enough for the middle class on up.  There will be more legislation to build on this healthcare Bill, which will only lead to a single payer system.  If people think the government will not ever deny somebody what they need, as a big bad insurance company would, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I would to sell you.  The truth is, the government will be in the business of denying people with cancer, in pain or with other serious conditions, the treatment that they desire and need to live a full life.  As a result, the life expectancy in the United States will begin to decrease in the years to come.  Because medical conditions will not be treated as they should, those patients will have dibilitating experiences for long periods of time if not becoming life-long.  People who need durable medical equipment will not be able to get it as easily as now and some forms of equipment may not be offered at all.

Welcome to Socialism!  This Bill, or law, has to be fought with everything the American people have to weaken it.  This cannot stand.  I for one will do my part to fight this gigantic disaster.  I hope others will join me.  This is truly an evil piece of legislation that has been forced upon us to take power and control out of the hands of the individual and into the government's.  Our federal government is seeking to be our God.  If that happens, life itself is over and we become nothing but robots taking orders.  Please do not let this happen and let us pray to the true God of the Universe for his help in this matter.  It is the only way now we will continue to exist as free and liberated people.

Healthcare Letter Inspired By Laura Ingraham

I am a big fan of Laura Ingraham.  When she asks people to help out with an issue, I usually do.  She asked today to write a letter to House members who are on the fence currently about the healthcare initiative.  This is what I said:

Dear

I am writing today in opposition to the health care legislation. As you know, this process has been going on for a year.  Nothing about this is good for America. We cannot afford this Bill. For me as a Christian, the abortion language is a non-starter. This Bill will take over 1/6th of the American economy and it will not control costs.  Every government program becomes inefficient and massively more expensive than originally estimated. So if you are waiting for the CBO score, forget it.

I have a disability and a counselor serving people with developmental disorders. This law, I fear, will not make access any better. In fact, many people with disabilities will suffer. Once you add more government bureaucracy to healthcare, access and quality will decrease. More people, not less, will suffer. This action of a “yes” vote will be at the height of irresponsibility and would be criminal.

Let me go back to cost. Where is the money coming from? We have a debt of $14 trillion and rising. If you vote “yes” on this Bill, you will be raising taxes, which will depress buying power. When you depress buying power, the whole American economy will be destroyed.  How much should we tax people – 80 or 90% of their income? How about 95% of income? How much are we going to borrow? We may have healthcare, but what good is it if living becomes so difficult that you cannot enjoy it.

In counseling, trainees are taught to examine their motives to prepare themselves to hear their clients. Don’t you think it’s time for politicians to examine their own motives for what they are about to do.  Vote No on the current attempt to overhaul of healthcare and any reconciliation Bill. Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,

Kevin W.
Massachusetts

I hope those of you who listen to Laura did the same.  We have to stop the madness before it is too late!

A Plea to Stop Healthcare Once and For All

I am finally back! Events in my life do not always give me time to write as much as I want to.

How is that healthcare Bill working out for you America? What kind of people do we have in congress? I admire the president for his tenacity. Being disabled as I am, I am kind of like him in that I do not give up easily. In his case, however, he does not seem capable of listening. Once again, please drop the Bill. Just drop it!  It will never do what it says it will.  Obama keeps saying “those big bad insurance companies…we will take care of them.” How dare they make a profit. The dirty secret is all the government is doing is transferring money from the private insurance companies to government.  Premiums will not go down in price.

Why? The government wants that money for itself so they can have power and control over your life and mine. People are going to pay more in taxes and watch out the air that you breathe.  Oxygen will be taxed if they can figure out how to do it!  For Pete sake, stop the Bill and the madness in Washington! It will not bring down the debt. None of what they are promising is going to be true. How do I know this? Every time Washington tries a new program, it just grows and it becomes inefficient to great proportions.

Today, I received my second round of Botox injections to my leg in hopes they will be able to keep my foot from turning over when I stand. I have one of the best doctors doing the injections in the country for Botox and my type of condition. As another example, I just finished evaluating somebody a developmental disability who had a behavior change.  One of the doctors finally prescribed some medication, which decreased his symptoms, but we still do not know what caused this change in the first place.  It will probably take more medical testing to get to the bottom of the problem.

In a few years, I wonder what it will be like if Obamacare passes. Nobody is talking about removing the committee on comparative research, other known as the "death panels."  This part of the plan will  no doubt harm myself and individuals even more vulnerable than I. Please America, do not let your government do this. Call your Representatives now and tell them to kill it. This must be done to preserve healthcare for everyone and more vulnerable populations. We can fix what is broken, but please stop the madness now!

Religion and Politics

 Happy New Year America!

This post kicks off my first full year as a political blogger. I never wanted to get involved much in politics because I always sensed it was a “nasty” business. I thought the other day that the only difference between the mob and the government was that one enterprise was legal (government) and the other one illegal (mob). Now, I have a hard time seeing government as a legal enterprise.   Our federal government ignores the Constitution, thwarts the citizenry, steals our money in the form of taxes and spends it on useless things based on their own selfishness and greed.  Politicians are so ego-centric they only make laws and deals behind closed doors, only to increase their power and control over the public.  This is where we are today in American society.

Well, we almost have a healthcare Bill joined between the House and Senate – isn’t that lovely. This was after Obama promised he would have the negotiations on C-Span eight times during his campaign for President. What do we get? Backroom deals that stink like a skunk.  Now, we hear the unions will be exempt from paying their share until 2018 and some of it will be forever, making it all the costly for the rest of us. Sound familiar? Oh yes, it was the sweetheart Senator Ben Nelson, from Nebraska, that received another exemption for his state forever.

Meanwhile, I learned from Raymond Arroyo on the Laura Ingraham show that Obama has appointed a new taskforce to look into how government and faith-based organizations can work best together. Apparently, they are considering recommending to the President that faith-based organizations that run soup kitchens or something cannot show the cross on the wall if they receive federal funding. Another issue is how to best get along with our Muslim brothers. I am not opposed to finding ways to improve relations with Muslims, but what about finding better ways to communicate to all people.   Why is it just Muslims? Where are people today?

This year, the President goes off to Hawaii and Raymond Arroyo reported that the Obama’s wanted to have a non-traditional Christmas. What does that mean? It is the birthday of Jesus Christ. Maybe it was different, but within the remembrance of the Lord on High. People have all kinds of ways to celebrate Christmas and I am not judging the Obama’s, but it is a concern after some of the things he has done that makes me terribly worried.

If their celebration did not include some remembrance of why we celebrate Christmas and forgot about the Lord and just sunned themselves on a Hawaii beach, then there is something fundamentally wrong with that, especially if the Obama’s are to say they are true believers in Christ, which they have or at least the President has. The Obama's have not chosen a church yet.  The reason this is important is because I want to know something about our President’s value system. Some may say we are not a Christian country, but they are ignorant of the facts. It is a Christian country and being as such, Christians should always lead this nation.

Obama does not act Christian at times even though he likes to quote the Bible whenever it serves his purposes, but if you look at his agenda and behavior, it does not seem like he comes from that tradition.  He grants evil people the right to be tried in the United States for terrorism. He is for abortion and he is supporting a healthcare Bill that most of the American public think it will degrade their quality of care, especially seniors and people with disabilities.

We still do not know where Obama was born because they continue to hide his original birth certificate. We know he spent some time in Kenya, which is predominantly Muslim. His father was Muslim. On another point, this is the President who had the cross covered at Georgetown University when he was running for President. To be fair, we are all sinners even Christians. No man or woman is free from that curse and God knows I am not perfect either. So, I am no better than Obama in God’s eyes. When one has a man, however, who said he is one type of person and acts and behaves in the opposite direction, it leaves people to question who he really is. That is a whole other bowl of wax from people who know they sin, acknowledge they sin and feel badly way deep inside even though none of us acknowledges to the extent we should, the sin we have all caused in life.

Religious doctrine aside, we may be turning a corner in America politically. I live in a state where this madness could end with our special election in Massachusetts. Scott Brown is the answer or part of it. His opponent is Martha Coakley and she represents the establishment. It is time for Massachusetts to change and it is time for our country to change. I hope everybody in my state votes for Scott Brown and it can be a beginning back to common sense and traditional values.

Lastly, I would like to ask God to bless those in Haiti who have suffered an unbelievable tragedy this week in that earthquake. There are still many trapped and unaccounted for and I just ask God to heal that tiny nation. I also ask God guide our own nation and I pray that our government will change for the better. Until next time, take care.

Failure to Lead on Terrorism

Yesterday, Secretary Napolitano said that our system worked when the bomber failed on Friday to detonate and blow up an airliner and the fact that the passengers got on top of him quickly. Today, after major criticism, she said those remarks were taken out of context and she said that she meant that the system worked as far as obtaining the first responders to the site.

Let us take a look at this logically.  If the plane was blown up, would the Obama administration still call this a success because the first responders got there in a timely fashion to clean up the debris and carry out bodies out of the reckage?  The other way to look at this is would it be a failure, not because the plane blew up, but because the first responders failed in their duties to get there in time to clean up after the explosion or perform crowd control?  Anyway you look at this, it was a failure because success only depends on one thing -- prevention of an act of terrorism.  Despite the heroic efforts of the passengers and the crew who stopped this maniac from blowing up the plane, that is not success because passengers and a crew should not have to deal with such events.  It is a failure!  Let us not sugar coat the truth because the more you do that, the terrorists will eventually win.  They rely on lies to succeed.

Can you say “FAIL!!!” When can the Obama administration ever admit failing? When can this administration ever be honest with the American public and call a spade a spade? Perhaps never, because Obama and his cronies are the darling people of the universe. They are greater than God Himself. After all, “change has come to America” and DON’T YOU EVER FORGET IT!!! They cannot do anything wrong because Obama came to save us from the “big Satan (George Bush") whose spit sulfur on the UN lectern a couple years ago according to the darling Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

Today, President Obama said that this was an “isolated extremist.” Oh really. Obama cannot admit that we are at war with terrorists. Evidence is mounting that a branch of Al Qaeda supported this scumbag on the plane. President Obama cannot admit that there is a war going on because that would mean agreeing with “the big Satan” and maybe dear old Hugo would not like us anymore.

President Obama, please change course and please lead us into battle with these radicals like you are proud of your country you represent. No apologies. Use the word “war on terror” and say it like you mean it. Please admit that there is right and wrong. Please Mr. President, do not close Guantanamo Bay and bring back enhanced interrogation. Do not allow this creep to get skin grafts on the tax payer's dime. Finally, please lead like you understand the grave threat we face and do not let them get away with this. If you do not change course soon, thousands of Americans on our own soil, will be killed, sooner than later I am afraid. This is my wish, my prayer and my word.  Thank you.

Terror in the Skies Calls for Reverse in Policy

Today, a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit experienced an attempted bombing by a Nigerian national by the name of Abdul Mudallad who may have affiliations to Al-Qaeda. The people on the flight quickly subdued the suspect. The flight originated in Nigeria. The suspect tried to detonate a liquid device upon decent in MI.  The President and federal agencies are investigating and we all support their work at this time.

While one person and maybe a wider conspiracy caused this cowardly act, we cannot forget the present policies, which may have encouraged the terrorists to step-up their attacks at this time.  When you delay sending troops into battle, prosecute our own CIA agents, attempt to appease countries who sponsor terrorism and want to blow other countries off the map, set arbitrary deadlines to end wars, and remove terrorists from military custody and transfer them to civilian courts as if they were common criminals, you send a dangerous message to our enemies, President Obama.  Please reverse these policies and act like a leader who does not care about his own image, but about his country he leads. If President Obama does not reverse course now, we are likely to see more terrorist activity soon.  Not that we will not see anything even if these ridiculous policies are reversed, but it could not hurt.

Healthcare Passage from Senate

Earlier today the Senate passed their version of healthcare reform.  Unfortunately, Democratic Leaders and President Obama have misrepresented the facts and continue to tell falsehoods about their own Bill.  This Bill and future law will cripple our country, profoundly damage our healthcare system and hurt the most vulnerable in society.

I know the left will vehemently oppose what I, and others are saying, but our side is more correct.  The fact is the left has used false logic and a desire to control your life and mine to ram this Bill through.  Are you ready for your taxes to increase, less care, quality of services to disintegrate, and your very freedom to erode.  Get ready America! All those things are coming. Out of all days of the year, the Senate had to dump this monstrosity on us at one of the happiest times at Christmas.

As I have been saying there is still time to stop or significantly curtail this Bill and take the “poisonous venom“ out of it.  After Christmas, it will be important for everyone who reads this posting and cares about this issue to contact their Representatives and Senators and tell them to say “no” in conference committee and in the final vote.  If we lose there, and it becomes law, I am sure a few of us will keep up the fight for years to come.  The war has just started.

I do not mean to sound militant on Christmas Eve because we all have a lot to be thankful for this year.  I just want to encourage those that read this that hope still exists in this issue for a satisfactory resolution.  The whole point of Christ coming to earth was to provide hope in Him and in the end, no matter how tough it may seem or become, the Lord will save those of us who believe.  This is not my opinion, it is in the Bible (John 3:16).  So, in that sense, I offer the hope that the government can and will respond to the citizens.  That hope is probably the best gift we can give each other this Christmas.

Be well, be safe, and know that the Lord is with us all, even with those who try to take control and power over others.  That is the message of Christmas.

The Washington Mess

Hi Everyone:

I know it has been almost two months, if not longer since I last posted. I am not very active like some others. Nevertheless, that does not mean I have not followed current events and boy, many things have happened since my last posting. So, I am going to take time to touch on a few things.

On November 5th, we had a maniac shoot down 13 of America’s finest at Fort Hood and injured 32 other people. It was a shock to all of us I think, to find out the killer was one our own and he was also a psychiatrist. This was a man who our soldiers trusted to take care of them when they were the most vulnerable. He knew some of their innermost secrets. Major Nidal Malik Hasan was a practitioner of medicine. He swore to uphold the Hipocratic Oath to do no harm. He violated the Oath, the trust of his patients and his right to be called a human being.

A larger concern looms over this crisis. The other psychiatrists in Walter Reed and Fort Hood overlooked his strange behavior as he talked about martyrdom as a right of honor for Ala. All psychiatrists and other mental health professionals are supposed to report an impaired therapist. This did not happen. It is part of the ethical code of the mental health professions. How do I know this? I am trained in mental health counseling on the Masters and CAGS level. I am ashamed of my overall profession even though it did not happen with my particular discipline. I am part of a larger “family” of practitioners who are supposed to keep the public safe and care for the individual needs of clients and patients. Section two, rule four of the Principles of Medical Ethics for Psychiatrists states:

“Special consideration should be given to those psychiatrists who, because of mental illness, jeopardize the welfare of their patients and their own reputations and practices. It is ethical, even encouraged, for another psychiatrist to intercede in such situations” (American Psychiatric Association, 2009; p. 5).*

My “professional family” failed this country when these groups of psychiatrists chose to be politically correct instead doing what was right. In my mind, these doctors should all be fired and lose their license. I also hope the families sue them, because it was an act of negligence. Even though Major Hasan did this dastardly deed, these psychiatrists are in my mind responsible in the murders and injuries of these soldiers. Now, they are dead or injured because nobody spoke up.

I see the peaceful land of Iran has fired off another missile – this time long-range. How is that appeasement going for you President Obama? You wait four months while you decide whether to follow your own war strategy in Afghanistan and you let strange people into your White House. You have your Attorney General try our own CIA agents, the very people who are saving your life and mine while you bring terrorists back to the United States for a show trial. No wonder why no one takes you seriously President Obama. If this was not as serious and as deadly as we on the right think it is, it would be laughable. It is not! Our great country and everybody in it, is in more danger than they ever have been.

How’s that healthcare working out? The last time I posted, I was talking about the House Bill. Now we have a laughable performance in the Senate. Why are those Senators trying to vote on something that does not exist or barely? The Bill just been released in the past week of this writing and they are scheduled to vote on Christmas eve day.  They are acting like children on a grand scale. I also want to know what makes such a process Constitutional? The Government cannot make a citizen buy anything – not even a mousetrap. They are getting away with something that should not be allowed. Where is the outrage?

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson took the prize by obtaining exemption for his state for Medicaid payments forever. This is unheard of and totally ridiculous. Even the Governor of Nebraska does not want this and yet that was price that was paid to obtain the 60th vote to get this outrageous Bill passed. Let’s not forget Mary (Louisiana Purchase) Landrieu for being awarded 300 billion dollars for her state of Louisiana. There are others, but this stinks to high heaven! I encourage the people of these states to vote these people out the next time they are up for re-election. There is horse trading and then there is horse trading. This borders on illegal bribery and it should be investigated as such either now or in the future. How about this as a compromise. The Democrats can drop the investigations and the prosecutions of the CIA agents and the Republicans will not go after these leaders for illegal acts.

Republicans are not too much better. They took many earmarks in new omnibus spending Bill. Neither party is clean. I know this is how things are done in Washington and it has been going on for a very long time. It is wrong and nobody gets it! So I would like to ask the politicians of each party to please KNOCK IT OFF!!!!!! Thank you.   Now I feel better.

We better fix healthcare before global warming kills us all. How do you like the performance in Copenhagen? This has been a dog and pony show, if I ever saw one. I go back to the title of my last posting to describe Copenhagen. It is about “power and control.” It is not about saving lives and it is not about saving the planet. This is part of a global movement taking effect in every country where the political elite really desire to be worshiped. This is why God is under attack in our society as well as other nations around the world.

Socialism is the dream of every political elitist because finally everybody will bow down to them and puff up their overstretched egos and they will no longer be challenged or be made to feel uncomfortable. It is a utopia for those that seek the ultimate nirvana and those who are uncomfortable with the reality and the thought that there is a higher being above them. This is what global warming and other international movements are all about. It is not about the less fortunate or the average man or woman on earth. It is about power and control.

Those reading this who think I may give up on this theme of power and control are mistaken. I do not give up easily – just ask those that know me. This is what I believe is going on and it has been going on for a long time, but now we are seeing attempts that have accelerated these movements. The people of the world have not seen such blatant action by national and global leaders to make other people their puppets. This is what we will amount to if we do not stop them. We can and we must! President Obama and his cronies will have a lot of explaining in 2012 when the damage to this country will be severe and vast.

I hope we can slow the progression down in 2010 with the midterm elections, which seem likely as of now. Mark my words, however, the damage to this country, even if we un-elect President Obama or he leaves in 2017, will be done and many people will be hurt for life and generations will not recover ever again what we had. The question will be, at that time, how much damage can be repaired and how much of it will people have to live with and suffer through until the end of civilization?

I do not mean to depress or scare people, but I am looking at the reality of what we all face. We can repair some of the damage if we want. I am calling on everyone who reads this to be proactive. No longer can we sit back and let the politicians do what they want and we will just throw them out in the next election cycle and move on. Wrong! We have done that too long it is now at the point where our own lives are almost lost. Please get involved. Go to a tea party, go see a Representative or Senator or their aide, blog, e-mail news channels, write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, run for office big or small, and most of all, what I recommend is go to church or pray daily for our country. My faith tells me that the more people who turn back to God will be rewarded because He is the only one who can save our nation and save our planet. We cannot. I do not care what President Obama or Al Gore says. We cannot fix our own problems that we made, but God can. I hope people will take this advice.

I would like to thank our conservatives in the media who are working their souls out to try to save us and doing the work God wants done. I want to thank Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Sarah Pailin, Senator Demint, Senator Leiberman, Representative Bauchman, Representative Blackburn, Rick Santorum, and others. They are the heroes in this new battle. Please listen to them and heed their warnings. Thank you one in all and together we will get through this nightmare. Merry Christmas!

Response to Healthcare Speech

I looked at President Obama’s speech on healthcare, which was delivered on the 2nd of September. As usual, he tried to sell a “good product,” but it was not enough for me to accept. There are many aspects of the speech that can be criticized, but I have only chosen a few comments to respond to as follows with him in italic red and me in black:

But thanks to the bold and decisive action we've taken since January, I can stand here with confidence and say that we have pulled this economy back from the brink.

In the first five minutes of the speech, he blew it because I found this statement inaccurate. The current unemployment rate is still 9.7%. We spent 700 billion dollars with the TARP.  We spent 410 billion dollars on the Omnibus Spending Bill. We spent 3 billion dollars on Cash for Clunkers. We are halfway through cap and trade, which will be very expensive if passed. The banks are still not lending as much as they should. The housing market, while better, is still behind. I ask my fellow Americans does this sound like coming back from the brink?

Many other Americans who are willing and able to pay are still denied insurance due to previous illnesses or conditions that insurance companies decide are too risky or too expensive to cover. We are the only democracy -- the only advanced democracy on Earth -- the only wealthy nation -- that allows such hardship for millions of its people.

I applaud President Obama for wanting to do something about the insurance companies, which do not cover people with illnesses and disabilities, of which I am one. To assert, however, that somehow we are creating a “hardship” on our people, making it sound like we are no better than North Korea or many countries in Africa, or South America, because they lack the technology, or have a government, which does not care, should be insulting to every American. We have some of the best medical people in the world and President Obama sounds like he is apologizing again for the horrible deeds we have put people here and across the globe. When he alludes to “other democracies” he is referring to Europe and Canada, which have socialized medicine, which often has long waits for attention, and in some cases, people receive inferior or no care. Do people want a system like those or a system such as what we have now, only with a few improvements?

But either one would represent a radical shift that would disrupt the health care most people currently have. Since health care represents one-sixth of our economy, I believe it makes more sense to build on what works and fix what doesn't, rather than try to build an entirely new system from scratch.

Sorry Mr. President. Starting over is actually what you are doing. When you propose a public option, to establish a centralized board in Washington D.C., putting together numerous new regulations, proposing a 900 billion dollar program over 10 years, which is likely to be under estimated, you are starting over again. It will be a brand new system. This is is no small adjustment to a few problems. It will be a totally new system controlled by the federal government.

But what we've also seen in these last months is the same partisan spectacle that only hardens the disdain many Americans have towards their own government. Instead of honest debate, we've seen scare tactics. Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise. Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points, even if it robs the country of our opportunity to solve a long-term challenge. And out of this blizzard of charges and counter-charges, confusion has reigned.

Oh really! Which is the party shutting down the debate? Which side keeps threatening to use the nuclear option? What party has more radical groups behind it pushing for a government solution? What party is in charge of Congress? Which party has offered suggestions, but has been turned down almost everytime? The Democrats and the liberals own Congress. This is the President’s party. They have shut down more debate, refused to listen to people at townhalls, in some cases, and have thought they have supreme rule over this issue.

There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms -- the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally. AUDIENCE MEMBER: You lie! THE PRESIDENT: It's not true. And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up -- under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.

Congressman Wilson was wrong to do what he did. It was an impulsive move that should never happen in the Well of the House and it is inexcusable to interrupt the President of the United States. Having said this, I also think the Democrats have gone too far in censuring Congressman Wilson because he directed that comment to the President, so it is between the Congressman and the President. It makes no difference where it was said, it is still between two men – not the whole House. I heard it from Carl Rove on Fox News soon after the speech that there is a rule against illegal ailiens being covered, but the Democrats rejected any language that would include a varification process in order to reinforce such a rule. Isn’t that wonderful! This is a case where two opposite positions can be paradoxically true. This makes this part of the law self-contridictory; ergo, illegal ailiens have to be covered. Therefore, Congressman Wilson was probably more correct than Obama, but it was not a lie to say the Bill would be against illegals being covered. As for abortion, I will only say there is still a dispute whether the Bill would allow abortion by omiting language, which would prohibit the practice.

These are my observations of the speech by President Obama on healthcare reform on the 2nd of this month. There are many other comments I left out of the analysis. President Obama clearly wants to do something about healthcare or how you insure people and that is another problem in the debate. What is the President trying to change – is it healthcare itself or how you provide insurance?

As we go into Fall, conservatives need to keep the pressure on the government and demand that the politicians obey the Constitution. Getting healthcare right is not a matter or expediency, but it is a matter of providing the people to obtain as a good a system as we can make it, whether it takes a few months or a few years. If our government does the wrong thing and people suffer it will be difficult to change those bigger problems once they begin. That is my take and I encourage people to keep doing what they can to ensure greater health prosperity in the future. Thank you.

An Open Letter and Opinion on Healthcare Reform

Dear Fellow Citizens:

Some people who receive this may not know me. I have a Masters in mental health counseling as well as a couple certificates in mental health. I now counsel people with developmental and physical disabilities. It was not always like this.   You see, I could not breathe when I was born because I was in the wrong position in the womb while being delivered.

The result was that I sustained brain damage, affecting movement and speech production. I cannot really do anything for myself. I am a person in a wheelchair and have others take care of my needs. Thankfully, my mind was spared and I use it to the best of my ability to help others and contribute back to society. If I can change lives through my experience and efforts, it is all worth it.

I wish to address the readers about what the Congress and the President are doing now in order to reform healthcare in this country and what it will specifically mean for people with disabilities and the elderly. Specifically I would like to discuss the public option they keep mentioning. This is frightening once one learns of the details.

As someone who interfaces with doctors and others in the healthcare system, I am concerned about the federal government coming between my doctor and me. President Obama and many in Congress want to put a five-member panel in charge of your and my healthcare decisions. Doctors will not be making decisions on what is best for the patient, but based on some criteria the health board prescribes. I want readers to understand all health care records will be based in Washington, D.C. that a health board will know everything that is done to a patient.   Uncle Sam will be watching us.

The main purpose to this board ultimately will be to ration care. Access to specialists will be limited. This will hit hard, especially those with special needs, such as the elderly, and those under that age group who are disabled.   People may have more difficulty accessing durable medical equipment or assistive technology. People may say that their insurance already gives them difficulty when making medical or equipment decisions. At least now people have the right to appeal insurance decisions, sue in court, or pay yourself. When the new public option takes over, and it will, people will not have those options.

What citizens in these United States have to understand is when 18-50 million new people are included in the insurance system, others in the system already have to be rationed. Why? According to Richard Morris the United States has 5 million doctors to care for 350 million people. We have a shortage of doctors and one cannot even begin to overhaul the system until we address this problem. This will cause additional rationing of health care quality and access, which will hurt the elderly and other people with chronic conditions.

It is scary to think “end of life counseling” will become mandatory every five years for people 65 years and older no matter what they have tried to suggest to the contrary. Last Spring, President Obama said “the chronically ill and people toward the end of their lives account for 80% of health care costs and that difficult and democratic conversations are going to have to take place to decide who would receive life sustaining care.” It makes you wonder whether our health care system will support life for all or life for some and death for others. Remember, the federal government through the national health board will make such decisions, not you or your doctor. Are you comfortable with such a reality?

We can reform health care without sacrificing access and quality while protecting special needs populations.   I believe tort reform should occur. Health savings accounts should be available. People have to be given the opportunity to pay for basic care while catastrophic coverage should be provided. People should own their own health insurance plan, not their employer, putting the individual in charge of his/her own destiny in the health care system. The medical equipment and assistive technology industries need to be brought in line with cost containment policies including having individuals negotiate with vendors on the price of a particular item and having a trial period before insurance is billed. There are so many ideas we could be doing. It would be cheaper and it would improve access and quality.

There is hope and it resides in each one of us. Solutions to the health care problem have to come from the bottom up, not the top down. Please join me in writing and calling your Representatives and Senators in the U.S. Congress and even the President himself. Visit your Representatives or their aides. Remind them of some of the simpler ideas to health care reform, which will be more effective in the long run. Tell them their radical idea about taking over health care is unsustainable and will endanger lives. It is they who need to listen, not the other way around. Any Bill that has a public option with a national health board cannot stand. Even though now, they say they will drop the public option in favor of health co-ops, nobody knows what that means yet, especially for people with disabilities and the elderly so now is not the time to become complacent. It is time to take action. Every country that has a socialized system such as the one being considered, has failed. Remind the politicians of this fact. You can tell them if they vote for any Bill that denies freedom of choice in health care decisions of patients and doctors, they will be defeated in the next election and you will work for their opponent to make it happen. People with disabilities are the largest minority in the country — 54 million people have some type of disability (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000; The National Organization on Disability/Harris Interactive – Survey of Americans with Disabilities, 2005; DiversityInc, 2008). It is also the only minority anyone can join at any time: stroke, a car/diving accident, head trauma, sports injury, violence, or other disease. How do you want to be treated if the worst happens? We can defeat the notion of nationalized, single-payer health care (do not let the politicians tell you any differently), but it will only happen if people put sustained pressure on elected officials for the next several months and perhaps beyond. Presently politicians are home for a few more days. Let us make our voices heard now and keep it up America!

I wrote this letter to help bring attention to the issues of people with disabilities and the negative impact it will have on our population along with the elderly. Ultimately, along with others, I believe this is not about health care, or improving the lives of the people in the United States. It is about who has power and control. Please do not let them take away your freedom or mine to choose what care we receive for our physical and mental health. Thank you for reading.
